R&D Engineer

Over the next two years, Myriad will be building and testing a full-scale, 30m high, 50kW prototype before product launch. After successfully closing an investment round, there are now openings to join the team as we kick-off this exciting period of development.
As an R&D Engineer, you'll be integral to developing and testing our innovative 50kW Myriad Turbine, working hands-on with prototypes and contributing to a technology that will transform renewable energy for energy-intensive businesses.
Location: (Hybrid) Office in Stirling, Scotland, and work from home (+ occasionally at test site near East Kilbride)
Reports to: CTO
Employment Type: Full-time, permanent
Salary and benefits: £30,000 – £40,000 salary + Share Options.

Full-Cycle Engineering Design – Conduct engineering design work, FEA and aeroelastic simulations, physical component testing, and prototype installation within a close-knit and ambitious engineering team.
Data Analysis & Documentation - Analyse test data, document technical specifications and design iterations, and support field test campaigns.
Installation & Maintenance - Design installation procedures, develop maintenance protocols, and perform hands-on prototype and pilot installation and maintenance work.
Standards & Compliance - Ensure designs meet engineering standards and contribute to certification simulation campaigns.
Supplier Support - Coordinate with suppliers, evaluate off-the-shelf components, and assist with procurement and specification development.
Occasional Travel - Test sites, pilot projects, supplier facilities, and conferences.

Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
Technical Foundation - Understanding of mechanical design principles, structural analysis, engineering standards, and compliance requirements.
CAD & Simulation Skills - Proficiency in CAD software (ideally SolidWorks) and working knowledge of FEA simulation tools (ideally Ansys) for mechanical design and analysis.
Practical Engineering Approach - Hands-on experience with engineering projects, testing, or product development with strong problem-solving abilities and excellent attention to detail.
Team & Startup Fit - Ability to work collaboratively in a small, fast-paced team, comfortable working under technical guidance while demonstrating initiative in self-led work.
Creative Solutions: Ability to contribute new ideas to the team that meet design requirements and solve technical challenges.

2+ years of relevant engineering experience (including graduate work or internships).
Experience with wind turbines, renewable energy systems, or rotating machinery.
Knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, or control systems.
Experience with engineering drawings and design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).
Familiarity with large hardware installations in rural environments.
Familiarity with data acquisition, instrumentation, and communications systems.
Experience with aeroelastic modelling and simulation.
Coding and data analysis.
Driving license and access to a vehicle.
Senior R&D Engineer

As a Senior R&D Engineer, you’ll lead technical development at Myriad Wind Energy Systems as we scale our patented modular turbine technology from 2kW prototype to a commercial 50kW Myriad Turbine. You will also drive design decisions, own critical technical workstreams, and take accountability for engineering quality and processes that will define our product's success in the distributed wind energy market.

Technical & Design Ownership - Lead mechanical design and systems integration, check and release drawings for manufacture, own FEA simulation strategy, and make critical decisions on component selection, materials, and system architecture.
Testing & Validation Strategy - Design and establish test programmes and methodologies, lead field test campaigns for the 50kW prototype, and take responsibility for test programme success and data integrity.
Product Engineering & Standards - Define maintenance procedures and serviceability requirements, direct design simulation campaigns for compliance with wind turbine standards, and drive technical risk mitigation.
Supplier & Manufacturing Leadership – Aid the supplier coordination and procurement strategy, support establishment of procurement processes, ensure design for manufacture and serviceability across all systems, and oversee and participate in hands-on installation and maintenance activities for prototypes and pilots.
Technical Leadership & Process Development - Provide technical guidance to R&D Engineers, check and approve technical work, collaborate with CTO on product roadmap, assist with project management and establishing engineering processes (approval workflows, version control, engineering decision-making frameworks), and own positions of technical leadership and accountability within projects.
Occasional Travel - Test sites, pilot projects, supplier facilities, and conferences.

Significant Experience & Track Record - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience. Some experience of large hardware engineering projects from concept to production.
Advanced Technical Expertise - Advanced proficiency in CAD software and practical design; extensive experience with FEA simulation and structural analysis; deep understanding of mechanical design, materials selection, and manufacturing processes; and experience with drawing release and approval processes for manufacturing.
Standards & Complex Systems - Good familiarity with engineering standards and certification requirements, experience with complex mechanical systems (preferably in energy, industrial equipment, or rotating machinery), and designing for harsh environments and long-term reliability.
Independent Decision-Making - Demonstrated ability to independently lead technical workstreams, make sound technical decisions with limited oversight, and evaluate technical alternatives considering multiple constraints.
Professional Maturity & Leadership - Knowledge of engineering processes and workflows, ability to review and approve technical work of others, excellent communication with technical and non-technical audiences, capability to work autonomously in start-up environment, and mentoring experience with less experienced engineers.
